 England: Anglo-Saxon Treasures,
Maldon Battle Site,
Burial Mounds at Sutton Hoo

Hanging Sutton Hoo cauldron (replica) and chain, Brit Museum LondonIf you want to see Anglo-Saxon treasures, weapons, tools, pots and pans, tableware, jewellery, art, books and battlefields, of course the first place you need to go is England.

These pages share some of the artifacts and scenes I found while pursuing Beowulf studies during a brief visit to England last summer (2007). There are brief reports on the Sutton Hoo treasures in the British Museum, London; the battlefield where Byrhtnoth met his end at Maldon; and the burial mounds and Display Centre at Sutton Hoo

You don't want to hear about my family, but I do have some beloved English relatives, people of Irish, Scots, Anglo-Saxon, and viking ancestry and who knows what else. They kindly helped get me to interesting sites and discoveries.

Each of the four "country" sites takes you to a few samples of the riches available for reaching a deeper understanding of Beowulf.  If you're here strictly on Beowulf business, you'll want to skip "A Quick Look Round" where I share a few shots of the cities, towns, and countryside I saw on my travels.
